Other people have noticed this. And even some cartoons have made fun of it. It doesn't seem to work on everyone, but some people, when they get promoted, walk around with a blank stare on their face. Like they've been transported into some different dimension and now life is going to be different forever. In some ways it will be, but basically it's still the same life. After several days the newness wears off. Feeling that somehow you're special and living at a higher level in life fades away. Life goes on, they usually get around a 10% raise for promotion. Maybe some places do a little more, and sometimes it means that you're going to get bigger bonuses. The bonus aspect adds to the mystique and perception that you're getting rich, rich beyond your wildest dreams. But in reality you can't even afford to buy a Cadillac. Maybe you can get that Buick you always wanted.
