we have the internet for idiots

 The internet was going to be a place where people freely exchanged ideas and information. Sort of like a supermassive encyclopedia and information would be freely available and downloadable. You would be able to do whatever you wanted with it. It would be like information in heaven, freely available to everyone. Anytime somebody had an original idea they would put it on the internet with all the details they could think of and everybody would have access to it to improve the idea and everybody would be free to use it for the betterment of mankind. And of course people would get rich doing all of this but somehow it would all be free for people to access and use.

Instead what we have is the internet that's trying to sell you stuff. Useful information is still hidden away behind logins and auto payment schemes. And even then you can use the information but it's not yours to do with whatever you want. You can read it but you can't really use it to do anything useful. This is basically just turned into another way for people to try to make money while making it frustrating for people that really want to use information to do stuff.
