God never intended for the garden of Eden to last. It was sort of like all the times God holds the carrot out to Israel or to Abraham or to David or to Solomon. God says if all your future generations will worship Me perfectly and walk before me in absolute perfection following all my rules and ordinances and laws and statutes and intentions then I will protect you and be your God and provide for you for all of eternity. Uh, Reality check somewhere.

There was zero chance that Adam and Eve were going to remain flawless for all of eternity. The sad reality is they were defective from the start. Even if God had hid in the bushes and jumped out just before they sinned and said don't do it! And showed them a video of what it would be like after they sinned. Has time went on I'm pretty sure they would have resented God. They would have resented that they couldn't have the knowledge of Good and evil. There were lesser beings. They were perfect but ignorant. They were operating on faith and now they had seen the video of how horrible it was and they didn't understand that either. Why make something like the knowledge of Good and evil that somehow was supposed to make things better but somehow only made things horrible. I mean what was the point of all that it was Way beyond them just like it's Way beyond us.

 If God had taken Satan out of the garden of Eden and taken the serpent out of the garden of Eden and taken the tree of the knowledge of Good and evil out of the garden of Eden and just stayed with Adam and Eve for all of eternity then it would have worked. They wouldn't have known anything about what they didn't know. But for whatever reason that wasn't working for God. And after all God created Good and evil. God created everything. God created thought. God created ideas.
