what if

 Imagine if we are here by choice. One possible scenario is that at some time in the past we had the choice to vanish into non-existence or to press on and possibly face an eternal existence in the lake of fire being tortured for all of eternity. Or you might be able to make it into the happy place, the eternal Paradise. So in this scenario we probably have flunked previous iterations at making it into the eternal paradise and being one of Michael's angels. Instead we end up here. Now it's possible that God may have given us the option to just vanish into non-existence. But it's also possible that we really didn't have any choice, but to either get with the program or eventually get thrown into the lake fire. It's nice to think we had a choice of just pulling the plug and calling it quits.
