the test continues

People train and get educated and practice repeatedly to drill responses into their behaviors. A simple example is martial arts. In fact almost any athletic activity is an example of repeating some activity over and over and over again with the goal of becoming better and responding instantaneously or automatically almost without thought.

Somehow this doesn't seem to transfer completely into thought activities. It seems like it would. If someone asks you a question and you practice the response over and over and over again you think that that response would become automatic. But you hear people say quite often, I was caught off guard. Or the rapid fire questioning took me by surprise. In fact people will often ask a line of questioning seeking to lead you down their path of decision making rather than decisions that you would normally make on your own, and we fall for the trap. Why is this? We read the Bible, and we study the Bible, and we memorize verses, but quite often when faced with real world situations we don't use all that learning to deal with the situation very well.

It may be that God has programmed the test in such a way that without some sort of spiritual strengthening it's impossible to pass tests involving temptations and sin. You can memorize responses over and over again, but if you don't have the right spiritual fortification you will fail, possibly.
