working with people
I work in computer programming. When I was younger I thought that as you got older you would gain some sort of superpowers. They would become impervious to personal attacks and the negative energy of your coworkers your bosses and your customers. From my experience this turns out to be false. That kind of energy can never be redirected completely to Jesus. You never just sailed through the day completely free of any negative outside influences. It's always a constant factor of working in computer programming.
Instead, when you get older you just get tired of it. Eventually they kick you to the curb, they look down on you, they just go get somebody else.
You want it to be about getting stuff done. You want it to be about producing world-class results. You want it to be about helping customers and making people's lives better. But what they want is to see you sweat. They want to feel your pain. They want to look into your eyes and see the fear that you're afraid you can't get the next assignment done. When they don't see that it makes them angry. Eventually they get rid of you.
