Elon Musk is controversial

Although Elon Musk is controversial he seems to be hated by none. And he doesn't seem to get into long running verbal exchanges with people. Maybe he is behind the scenes but you just don't see it in the news the way you do other people.

This is 2022 and he just bought Twitter. The news headlines say things like

  • He fired lots of people and now he's paying for it
  • He's repeating what he did at SpaceX and Tesla by claiming that they're on the verge of bankruptcy after he fires everyone and sleeps at the office.
  • Apple and Elon Musk's Twitter are on collision course

And so although the news makes it sound negative they're almost saying positive stuff. It's not like he's doing anything really evil to anyone. I worked in software my whole adult life and was laid off three times and fired once. It's a common practice if you work in software or in the technical industries you know that sooner or later and probably sooner you're going to get fired. So the news reporting this isn't like some really evil thing it's just the way they do business. After all it is their business.

And Elon Musk is quite often disarming. To this day he's really the only purely electric car company that's making it on a global scene. Or making it on any scene that provides fully electric cars for the general population. There are a few electric car companies, but they generally produce one highly exotic car or something. But how Elon Musk is disarming is that all along he keeps saying that he's encouraging competition in the electric car market and hoping that he will get more companies that are full electric. His goal is to share a lot of his technology, like his charging stations, to help the electric car market expand. So it's hard to get upset about that. And frankly he's not selling electric cars super cheap, so in other words a serious competitor should be able to make cars at the same price he is.

Then he keeps going into these markets where there isn't a market basically. For instance he's now going into the communication satellite business. Now there are other companies that are in the communication satellite business, but he's entering with this complete global phone network concept that nobody has ever attempted. So from that perspective there are no competitors. His boring company digs holes in the ground. Now there are other companies that dig holes in the ground, so I guess he has competitors there. And then his rocket business is basically the only rocket business I'm aware of. Not too many people are building rockets to blast off stuff into space.

One of the strange things is he's able to go into these businesses without just turning them into a giant money wasting exercise. If you look back at Saturn and many other companies they came on the scene and were going to be the next big thing only to fade away and disappear.

Another strange thing is he appears to sacrifice his entire life to these companies, sleeping at the office interviewing and talking about the business 24/7, working non-stop, but he still has a life. I wouldn't say he has that much of a family life, he seems to produce kids, but are there any pictures of him with one of his kids? Maybe because he makes plenty of public appearances and does a reasonable number of interviews, he keeps himself in the public eye while still working non-stop. Plus somehow it seems like he's working even when he's on a yacht over in the Mediterranean.

The news makes rather negative statements about his decisions, but you never see them go back and eat their words. Tesla is still in business as are most of his other businesses. And Tesla's expanding all over the planet, while General Motors is hanging on by their toenails. It's highly likely that Twitter will be a huge success, partly because it already is. Some of his companies he started from scratch, but this one he's basically taking the helm of something that's been around for years and millions and millions of people use it. And he does very common sense stuff that the press tries to poke fun at but more or less just proves that he knows how to run a business. Supposedly he sent out an email that said anyone that actually does computer programming please come up to the 10th floor. The news tried to make it sound like this was an act of desperation in a situation of total chaos, but in reality it was a common sense approach to get everybody together quickly so he could make command decisions and get everybody on the same page. The news doesn't want to see it that way, but in elon's case that's the way it is.

News in America and probably everywhere throughout time has been a propaganda machine. They say stuff from a specific perspective over and over again hoping it will seep deep into your brain and you will buy it. I noticed this in America when I was a little kid about 10 years old. It seemed like over and over again they were saying stuff that wasn't necessarily true, it was just stuff they wanted you to hear. There probably are people that still take the news seriously, but for me the propaganda aspect of it has completely gone nonlinear. They make up their headlines based on their own agenda rather than any sense of reality. Is Twitter really on a collision course with Apple? If so, Elon Musk will probably get them to merge and name it Twapple or Twappletter.
