let's talk about me

I have moved to a relatively unpopulated part of the planet. There's a reason that certain parts of the planet are relatively unpopulated, they may be appealing at times but there are significant time periods where life is very uncomfortable. Now people can argue that life is uncomfortable almost anywhere you live at some point. For instance there are long coastal regions that are periodically hit by typhoons and hurricanes. These storms do billions of dollars in damage and sometimes kill hundreds of people. But for some reason people just keep flocking to these areas anyway. Probably the reason is that somewhere deep in the human psyche is an almost indomitable desire to stand on the beach and look out at the ocean. It isn't rational it's just the way we are. But there are other parts of the planet which are not close to a beach. And it can be miserable much of the time trying to live there. Now these places are habitable, here I am. Even so it's not very much fun. People try to put on a :-) and be brave about it but if all things were equal everybody here would probably move away. In other words if you could move somewhere where you had all the positive things that you have here and none of the negative things that you have there then you would gladly move there. But what keeps a few brave souls here is that things continue to get worse everywhere else. For instance nobody but Mexicans wants to live in California. In fact probably Mexicans don't really want to live there either they just want to use it as a stopping point. Nobody wants to live in large areas in the Southern United States due to the insufferable heat and humidity. Nobody wants to live out in the middle of the country because well there's just not very much there. Nobody wants to live in China because they're a Communist dictatorship where they just make people disappear if they don't like you. And nobody wants to live in Russia for the same reason. Now most people don't realize that Europe is beautiful but it's hot and muggy in the summer and cold in the winter. When you see people wearing sweaters indoors in movies it's not just because it's Christmas time and people put on festive sweaters, it's because it's 50° F indoors. Nobody really wants to live in the Middle East because it's full of a bunch of religious fanatics that have been slaughtering each other for the last several thousand years. There was even one notable time period where God actually sent the Israelites into areas of Canaan with orders to slaughter every living man woman and child. And the list goes on. But people have to live somewhere and so they pick a spot where they feel like they can make their stand and put up with the situation. So this is where I've ended up, but the climate and weather here makes it a challenge. The people are hearty and independent, but the geography and the weather can be miserable. In fact I'm pretty sure that more people die due to the weather than anything else. People generally don't kill each other here because they know the weather is probably going to get you pretty soon. And since there's not very many people here anyway they figure we need everybody we got.
