making new origami models

 Someone wrote that there are several different ways that people come up with new origami.

• Start with an idea and then fold the paper to look like that object.
• Start with an existing origami and then modify it to look like something else.
• Doodle around playing with the paper and folding it in different ways without any specific goal in mind.

 the last way is fun in that you don't have to end up with anything identifiable. It may just be a geometric shape or really just an asymmetric series of folds and paper. The fact that you did it makes it interesting to you. In general I found people will look at your origami and say oh wow interesting and then basically forget about it.
