Mars reality check
There are several companies that are working on robots. These robots are humanoid looking and they're able to accomplish some human tasks. They keep saying that any day now they're going to be able to surpass humans at normal routine activities. You would buy one of these robots, and then the rest of your life would be on vacation and working to pay for stuff but the robot would just do all the mundane stuff. Cleaning, washing, cooking, driving, shopping, in fact you could just keep adding everything. You might even have the robot watch TV for you so you can take some time off from that and do something you really want to do.
Now let's get back to Mars. Super intelligent robots you just plug in, they don't have to breathe they don't have to eat and they don't have anything that comes out of them. See where this is headed? If the cabin decompresses, the robots will be just fine. In fact if there's significant damage from an asteroid strike or something like that to the whole ship the robots may be able to turn the damage ship around and just come home if anything on the ship works at all. They may be riding outside on the front end of the thing for that matter.
Let's jump forward to the robots getting on Mars and setting up the colony. They establish the colony they plant farms they start augmenting the atmosphere. They build decent living quarters maybe they build roads and build factories and start mining minerals iron steel aluminum.
Now instead of making a death defying trip, we're taking a leisurely four months stroll in a spaceship over to a martian resort. We land and robots are there to welcome us to our new homes, feed us a great home-cooked meal and tuck us into bed for the night. Welcome to your new home, Martian.
The only part of colonizing Mars that makes sense to me is that if a dinosaur event hit one of the planets then the other planet could continue on. If on the other hand, you go with the biblical perspective, it doesn't matter how many planets you're on, God's going to wipe all this out and start over for the new version that God likes.
The strange thing is there are billions of people on this planet that would like to accomplish things in their life. We don't accomplish those things though. There are a handful of people that accomplish incredible things while billions of people accomplished very little. We study and research and interview the handful of people in a desperate attempt to mimic what makes them successful. One person wants to go to Mars. When people listen to that person it sounds perfectly reasonable. Now I'm not going to mars, it sounds insane. But to this person it sounds completely normal, desirable, and a very reasonable goal. All we have to do is...
