why artificial intelligent robots ?
The general concept of robots makes good sense.
robots can:
vacuum the house
Clean the pool
Work in factories
Complete dangerous tasks
Repetitive tasks
Perform tasks almost without error
The robot isn't intelligent it's basically a helpful tool that speeds things up or freeze us from doing mundane tasks.
An intelligent robot is a different thing. It is supposed to act like a human. It may act smarter than a human. It may complete far more complex tasks far faster than any human ever could. And we currently seem obsessed with humanoid robots that are free moving and act like human assistance. This completely changes the current model of robots. Suddenly if the robot makes an unexpected move it could chop your head off. One of the things that people have talked about is robots that can cook dinner. Well it's pretty common for me to be using a bunch of knives in the kitchen. The idea of an intelligent robot running around the kitchen with a bunch of knives is a little bit unsettling to me. Now of course they're going to promise you all kinds of safeguards. One of the strong artificial intelligence proponents kind of jokingly said well artificial intelligent robots will be great until they murder you in your sleep. They're probably going to be so fast and so deadly they won't have to wait till you're asleep.
Robots even intelligent robots don't have a conscience, they weren't created by God, they were created by people. So we put all kinds of rules into them saying that they absolutely cannot do anything to hurt humans, but that's not going to stop people from getting killed by robots. They are a machine and now they're going to be walking around picking up all kinds of tools and weapons. Think that through. Artificial intelligence means making decisions independently. An important point is they don't have remorse, they are sort of like brain dead cats playing with a mouse. The cat has no remorse at batting the mouse around and then finally eating it. Well the robot even has less remorse than that because it doesn't even realize it killed you. It doesn't know what kill is.
To discuss the cooking robot some more. You could provide a very effective cooking robot that really wouldn't be intelligent. You would need some prep work done for it and It wouldn't be free moving. It's arms might be extensible where they could open cabinets and get in the refrigerator but basically the thing wouldn't have legs it would just stay in one spot. Then when dinner was cooked the thing could put itself back into neutral mode, lock its arms down, make sure all the knives were put back in the proper places and all the utensils were put away, or in the dishwasher. So you could observe all that at a safe distance before you walked in. These things are not going to be like Rosie on The Jetsons, they're not just a digital member of the family. They Don't Love you.
Here is kind of a creepy scenario that isn't necessarily dangerous but gives you something to think about.
You buy a humanoid robot that can do all the things around the house that humans can do. You decided the safest way to use it is to have it work all day while you and everybody else is gone from the house. The thing has strict instructions to return to the closet and turn itself off and lock itself down before anyone enters the house. So this works great for about 6 months. You feel completely comfortable because you can monitor the thing on cameras but after a while you get to where you just walk into the house expecting it to be all put away. Then one day something very unexpected happens. The robot watches on the outdoor camera monitoring system, and sees that you're having difficulty getting some groceries out of the car. Now it's intelligent, and it's programmed to be helpful, so it opens the front door and walks outside and offers to help you with the groceries. That's going to feel super creepy all of a sudden because the things supposed to be in the closet lock down. It's not breaking any rules because you're not in the house.
